Preservering Van Kleef's liquid heritage! Van Kleef, the last jenever and liqueur house of The Hague, has been a living legacy since 1842. A place where history breathes and flavour speaks. Since 2000, Van Kleef has maintained the museum collection (owned by the municipality until 2024, now by Stadsherstel) through the sale of drinks and tastings. But poor accessibility, a €50 parking fee, financial setbacks due to COVID, the energy crisis, and complex regulations have made continued maintenance impossible. Plans are now in place to not only preserve Jenever Museum Van Kleef but also to expand it. The goal is to build a museum that gives the 20 historic Hague distilleries a voice — and to become a recognised museum, eligible to accept Museum Cards and thereby secure sustainable funding for maintenance. These plans have been approved by the Van Kleef Foundation Board and submitted to Stadsherstel and the municipality of The Hague.
