SUPPORT MUSEUM VAN KLEEF
HELP US PRESERVE LIQUID HERITAGE

We believe in the power of community, love for heritage, and the value of soulful places. Van Kleef is more than a business — it’s a living monument. A cultural anchor in the heart of The Hague. The future of Museum Van Kleef 1842 is a story of ambition, renewal, and connection. With your support, and that of the municipality of The Hague and Stadsherstel, we aim to:
-
Preserve, expand, and showcase the Van Kleef collection.
Creating a stable temperature and humidity level in all rooms is crucial to meet museum standards for preserving heritage objects and documents.
-
Transform the basement into a starting point for tours.
It will be renovated and equipped with lighting, ventilation, and audiovisual tools. Starting August, volunteers will give small-scale paid tours. This would be the first step towards a sustainable income from the museum.
-
Create thematic museum displays.
Storylines will be tailored to different visitor groups (youths, tourists, enthusiasts), with digital support, brochures, showcases, and exhibits.
Playful, educational, and surprising narratives will bring the museum and garden to life. Volunteers will be essential in this phase, and guided basement tours are the first step toward a full-fledged museum operation.
-
Connect the shop and museum.
Historic Hague liqueurs will be woven into the museum story; turning the products into tangible storytellers of the past and carriers of tradition.
-
Redesign the museum garden — The garden as a living story.
With heritage items and a (Westland) greenhouse, the garden becomes both educational and relaxing, with more seating for visitors.
-
Renovate roofs and insulate the depot.
Outdated asbestos roofs will be replaced. This will create safe, usable storage and exhibit areas, enabling object loans and museum-grade displays.
-
Work towards an official museum registration.
With improved infrastructure, indoor climate, and a professional volunteer team, we aim to submit a pre-application for museum status by the end of 2025.
As a registered museum, we could accept Museum Cards, ensuring sustainable funding. For this, we must upgrade the museum facilities and visitor experience.
-
Welcome 40,000 visitors per year.
Once complete, The Hague will gain a unique museum capable of receiving 40,000 visitors annually.
Together, we’re building a vibrant, sustainable future — with and for the city.
